Tuesday night marked our second night in Maui and also the Maui Farmer’s Union monthly meeting and potluck at the Pukalani Community Centre and pool. Oh-man did Emily and I have good timing on this one.
Their meetings happen the 4th Tuesday of every month and start off with a seriously fresh potluck and is followed by The Chef’s Corner, Mana Foods Produce Report, an Educational Presentation, Legislative Update, and Announcements pertaining to the farming community.
Highlights included a very enthusiastic report on local coconuts and the various stages of their maturation and a sampling of beet kavass (a lacto fermented beverage made from beets).
The energy in this community was palbable and very warm.
Check out all the awesome food on my plate!
