This month's mix comes to us all the way from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Before there was Our Daily Brett, there was Brett McDermott the commerce student studying at St. Mary's University and throwing dance parties with names like "The Good Friday Getdown", "Breakout!", and "Way Fazed Tuesdaze" on the side. It was during this period that Brett met Trevor Wood, our feature ODB Kitchen Mix DJ this round. Trevor, who goes by T-WOO, used to have a hip-hop night called Doin' Damage at a bar called Tribeca. At that time, he was just starting his DJ career.
Today, Trevor is a freelance graphic designer by day and DJ and man-about-town by night. He currently holds down 3 monthly dance parties in Halifax. For suggestions about activities to pair T-WOO's ODB Kitchen Mix with, see his tasting notes below.
This little summer mix is put together using jams of all flavors. It's a nice mix of funk, hip hop, house, and some more obscure stuff. I often run into good music that doesn't necessarily fit into any of my dj nights here in Halifax or elsewhere. Many of those songs found their way into this mix. This mix is perfect for drives to the beach, backyard hangs, lake swims or chillin' on a stoop and is the perfect after dinner mix, when you are trying to inject some energy back into everyone to keep the party going.
