Apart from the fact that these foods taste delightful, they promise all sorts of nutritional benefits. Fermented foods have been around for thousands of years, but it hasn’t been until recently that my taste buds have started to enjoy kefir, kombucha, kimchi and sauerkraut.
Fermented foods are naturally processed when good bacteria feed on the sugar and starch in the underlying ingredients (veggies, fruit, dairy, tea), creating lactic acid. This process preserves food, but also creates omega 3’s, probiotics, and b vitamins. Plus, fermented food is more easily digested and improves the health of your gut, digestive function, skin and mood!
